Traditional Owners Forced to Leave — Kokatha Mula Blockade Is Told to Shut Down in SA’s Far West

This morning in the Yumbarra Conservation Park, National Parks and Wildlife ended a Blockade as it headed into its third week. History seems to be repeating itself as Aboriginal people were told to move from their own land, denying them their inherent rights to their country and culture under the ‘Letters Patent’ 1836 and the Proclaimation of South Australia.

The Blockade has gathered much support in the past weeks, with the Democrat, the Hon. Sandra Kanck MLC and the Aboriginal Alliance Coalition Movement (AACM) putting pressure on the Government to address the issues that face Kokatha Mula people and their legal rights under the ‘letters patent’.

While the camp has agreed to act in a peaceful manner, Kokatha Mula people and their supporters will be re-grouping with a vow to push the issue until it gets the response from the South Australian Government that it deserves.
