Munda
Film Screening

Sydney
An
early version of a video documentary on four generations
of Kokatha Mula women and their fight to defend their
sacred sites from mining has been selected to screen
in an exhibition at Mori Gallery in Sydney as part of
the Sydney Biennale 2008.

Titled
Munda Land, the six minute video
documentary, which combines cinema verite footage gathered
over two years with interviews with Marcina Coleman-Richards,
Sue Coleman-Haseldine, Colleen Coleman-Prideaux, Dylan
Coleman and Jacinta Haseldine. Directed and shot by
Ali Russell, the film is currently in development to
become a half-hour length documentary.
Munda
screens at Mori Gallery, 168 Day street, Sydney.
Rockhole
Recovery
September 27 - October 3, 2008
Ceduna

The
time has come for the next Soak Protection & Rockhole
Recovery trip, presented by the West Mallee Protection
organisation. A 4x4 off-road journey into ancient Mallee
Woodlands in Kokatha Mula country (on the far west coast
of S.A., inland from Ceduna). The tour visits significant
sites to learn about the precious country that is currently
under threat. You will have the opportunity to taste
local bush foods, and assess and clean rockholes.

All Terrain Kitchen will be trading as usual at Oysterfest.
Selling quality burgers and steak sandwiches at stellar

burger, cruiser burger, Hilux sandwich and swag snags.

International
Latin-American and Australian Indigenous Gathering
October 23 - 26, 2008
Melbourne
A
gathering to address sovereignty issues related to development
and mining. The gathering includes workshops, exhibitions,
and a chance for people to talk to international guests
about the struggles in their homelands.
There
will be a welcoming fire ceremony at CERES on Thursday
the 23rd, a public meeting at Trades Hall (Lygon st.)
on Friday the 24th, and the rest of the conference will
be held at CERES over the weekend.

West
Mallee Protection Photographic Exhibition
October 28 - November 4, 2008
Melbourne

The
exhibition will give members of the Melbourne public
a chance to experience life in the Mallee. Displaying
photos of rare and unique flora, fauna and landscapes
of this remote region. These photos will include captions
by the traditional custodians, the Kokatha Mula people.
The
opening night of the exhibition will be opened by Kokatha
Mula representatives, who will give insight into their
precious country and its cultural significance.
The
exhibition is free and prints will be available for
purchase. Venue to be announced.
